Ouch: Usually one would expect to see swelling, pain, possibly redness and warmth to the area, and possibly deformity of the toe. If you suspect a fracture or sprain see a foot specialist for an x-ray and diagnosis.

Pain and swelling: Pain, swelling, and bruising, and angulation deformity are signs of a possible fractured toe. Have it evaluated by a professional and have it x-rayed.
