Get an antibiotic: There are antibiotics made just for sinus infections. Surprisingly, not all types of antibiotics work for all parts of the body in the same way. See your doctor for the proper prescription.

Get a diagnosis: There are many things that can mask as facial pain and cause headaches. It could be a tooth problem, a muscle problem or something else. It is important to find someone who can diagnose the problem and offer some appropriate options.

See your MD or ENT: If you know it's an infection most likely you will need a course of antibiotics prescribed by your MD. However if you want something over the counter that certainly won't hurt, get yourself a Nettie Pot or Dr Neal's Sinu-med. You mix warm water with salt and then flush your sinuses out. I have to admit, the results are amazing and the addition of this to any sinus problems!

ENT doc: The best person to manage a sinus infection is an ENT doc. X-rays are required to diagnose sinusitis.

See your PCP first: Your primary care provider can help you determine diagnosis, treatment or when it’s best to see a specialist and which specialist to see.
