Time: Sorry to hear about that. He may take time because the damage to the lung has to heal. So anticipate another week at least. Talk with the lung doctor.

By what?: Gunshgt? Knife spontaneous? Most leaks resolve with surgery and tube drainage but it can take 2-3 weeks if the leak is big- there are some surgical tricks, staples, glue, etc that can be used on the worst leaks. Some items: 1. Stop bleeding 2 remove damaged lung tissue 3 save as much lung as possible.
