Loss of smell: Sometimes people think that they have lost their sense of taste when they have actually lost their sense of smell. Without smell, the ability to taste is compromised. Loss of smell is brief during respiratory infection or may be lost over time due to habits, caustic exposure, brain change, blockage of nasal passages due to problems such as nasal polyps. You should discuss this with your doctor.
