A member asked:

I got a period 3 weeks after starting metformin 500mg 3x a day, but it was really light. is that normal? i hadn't had it for 2 months before

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Probably not: Metformin is used to treat diabetes. Years ago it was found to be associated with restoring menstrual cycles and fertility in patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome (pcos) due to the link with Insulin elevations. However, in the last 5 years, studies have not demonstrated metformin as an improvment of fertility in pcos patients and is only indicated if the patient has prediabetes or diabetes.
