Yes: Hammertoe surgery is a common surgical procedure that has helped patients get relief from painful contracted hammertoe deformities to their toes. Surgery to 'straighten' your hammertoe should be performed by a board certified podiatric or orthopedic foot & ankle surgeon and should only be corrected if painful.

Hammertoe : Hammertoe surgery is very safe and is performed by podiatrists who are trained to do foot surgery. The safety issue is resolved by having your surgery performed in a hospital or certified surgical center. Podiatrists who are trained to do foot surgery can do it in either location. Surgical correction of hammertoes are suggested if all conservative measures were tried but were not successful.

It depends.: All surgeries have their own potential associated risks; however, hammertoe surgery is a relatively short and safe procedure with limited potential problems if performed properly and if the patient is compliant with the post-operative care.
