Late teens: Wisdom teeth are usually removed in the late teenage years. However, many are not extracted then and remain impacted in the bone. The longer one waits to remove the teeth, the greater the chance of unwelcome side effects due to the extractions. See an oral surgeon for a consultation on the removal of the wisdom teeth.

Teen years: Wisdom tooth removal is a common event in modern man. We usually don't have adequate jaw growth to accommodate them and they become 'impacted' in the jaws. Usually, their removal is 'elective' and can be done on a planned basis. Sometimes they become infected, which necessitates more immediate removal when the symptoms are under control.
