Stretch, heat, meds: Alternate applying moist heat and ice to your back, otc topical anti-inflammatory creams, otc Motrin and/or tylenol (acetaminophen) and stretching exercises. If you back pain persists despite trying any one or all of these, you should see your md/do. If you have fevers, chills, weight loss, bowel or bladder incontinence, leg weakness, numbness or tingling, or if you are over 55 or have fallen lately, see your md.
