Soft food: You should try a soft diet for a few days. If the jaw function does not improve with soft diet and ice/warm compresses over the jaw, consult your dentist or an orofacial pain dentist.

Soft: Definitely soft foods (soup, mashed potatoes, etc. Avoid chewy, including gum; hard, including steak or ice. The discomfort may dictate what foods you can tolerate. I would see a dentist or tmj/tmd specialist asap to avoid further problems.
