Chest pain: Your symptoms could very well be due to mitral valve prolapse as your doctor is suspects. Since it requires a definitive diagnosis such as an echo cardio gram, somehow you need to get it done.You may also benefit from a small dose of beta blockers and possibly nitroglycerine. Don't worry: Notwithstanding the prejudices of practicing doctors, there is NO evidence that MVP causes any symptoms of any kind unless the valve apparatus is leaky, in which case a loud heart murmur is present which you evidently do not have. Beta blockers have no evidence of any benefit and nitro could even cause harm. Even if the echo shows MVP, no treatment is required or helpful.
