Clarify please: Birth control pills do not protect against hiv, herpes, chlamydia, gonorrhea, or other sexually transmitted diseases. So "is it safe" ? No, not in terms of preventing sexually transmitted diseases. For pregnancy protection, no method is 100% and using dual methods is recommended (pills plus condoms).
