If you haven't had any signs of a tapeworm since 'segments' in stool (untreated) at 12, could it have been inside all this time although no signs?

Tapeworm: Yes definitely. Tapeworms infection must be treated for a cure. Just because you do not see segments does not mean its gone. Have the stools sent for analysis and get some medication for it.
