Antiinflammatory med: Anti-inflammatory medications are available without prescription in the form of Ibuprofen 200mg (rx- 400, 600, 800mg) and Naproxen 220mg (aleve)- rx-250, 375.500, 550mg) . Aspirin if tolerated and Acetaminophen (tylenol) are good pain relievers. Also topical analgesic rubs can help- such as capsaicin, can help relieve pain when applied sparingly.

Ice is a great start: Ice has analgesic properties. Applying ice for 15 minutes on/off and not ice to bare skin but covered with a cloth. Elevation reduces swelling and pain, pillow on the chest or on the table, NOT too high overhead. Finger motion while may no think thats good it is as it eases discomfort after one starts. Finally many OTC meds such as tylenol, (acetaminophen) motrin etc can have great pain relieving properties
