Osteoarthritis : The risk of lower extremity injuries is extremely high in college and nfl players. A high percentage have cartilage injuries of the knee in addition to foot and ankle sprains. These injuries quite commonly predispose the athletes to develop osteoarthritis of the associated joints. By age 50, many have advanced arthritis leading to a characteristic limp.
