Muscle vs bone: These definitions can vary depending on the exact style. In general, therapeutic massage involves varying techniques to reduce muscle pain and tension- mostly using pressure and some stretching. "manipulation" is typically thought of as repositioning bones so that they are in correct alignment. These two are not mutually exclusive-after a massage, decreased muscle tension can improve alignment.
