That what happends: Babies make their own Insulin in pregnancy & if mom had high sugars a lot comes across & baby makes extra Insulin to keep the level down.After the cord is clamped, moms sugar goes away but baby has excess Insulin for a while & the baby level can drop to very low levels.Some actually need IV glucose for a time to get over the issue.
