Sleep specialists: My favorite is emerson wickwire, phd, co-director, center for sleep disorders, pulmonary disease and critical care associates, columbia, md. It is important to ask specialists about their experience and expertise as it varies considerably.

Depends: Doctors who have completed fellowship training in sleep medicine will be the best resource. A clinical psychologist with training in sleep will be able to provide cognative skills in order to help people sleep better. A pulmonologist, neiurologist, internal medicine physician, dentist, etc will be trained in different aspects of dealing with sleep disorders.

Sleep disorders: In short, pulmonologist who have passed their sleep boards would have a much better grasp and understanding for sleep disorders compared to a psychologist. Physicians who are qualified have to take a rigorous american academy of sleep medicine exam, the most rexcent exam approx 3000 mds took it and the pass rate was approx 60 % i dont believe psychologist are qualified to take and pass this exam.
