In California : The highly pathogenic h5n1 avian influenza virus is not found in california or anywhere in the usa. In birds, however, influenza is a gastrointestinal infection so bird baths could be contaminated with some bird flu of some sort.

Avian influenza is..: An intestinal disease in birds so bird bath water may contain the virus but many of the strains of avian influenza do not transmit to people and the h5n1 strain does transmit well to people and seems to need direct exposure to the infected bird.
