Change Dressing: Most foot ulcer dressings can be taken off before a shower / bath and the wound can be exposed to water / soap. After the shower / bath, the wound should be re-dressed per the original directions.

Wet bandages: Wet bandages are not good for healing as they increase the moisture on the skin and surround tissue around the wound. This causes maceration. Think of a brick wall: the moisture destroys the mortar inbetween the bricks making the cells [the skin] unstable. Remove and seek gudiance from the group who are follwoing your wounds.

If it was put: On by your doctor call them and ask them. Is it was a small bandage you may be able to replace on your own, if larger like an inna boot or something they may have to put a new one on for you. Whatever, you do, don't do nothing, as you don't want the ulcer to get infected or macerated and worsen the wound.

Diabetic wounds : Diabetic wounds can turn from good to bad at a moments notice. If you have inadvertently wet your dressing you should remove the dressing and dry the wound and clean it thoroughly and reapply a dry dressing as soon as possible. If you notice redness or pain go to the er or your treating physician immediately. You do not want to have to have to undergo an amputation for a small thing as a dressing.

See your DR.: Do you have a penetrating ulcer on the sole of your foot? Do you have neuropathy? Why must you keep it dry? You may need to get a more sophisticated dr for this. Ulcers do not need to be kept dry.

Change the dressing: Most diabetic ulcers do not need to be kept dry, but some do - depending on the kind of dressing being used.. If you have the kind that is kept dry for several days at a time, then call your provider if you get it wet. Otherwise, change your dressing as scheduled.
