Sporatic: Many genetic disorders occur from sporatic mutations. This means that there was just a unexpected defect that occurred during development of the cells of your body. You may pass it on to your children, but you have no one to blame. It would be wise to discuss this with a genetics consultant.

Were they tested?: Vw disorder is the most common bleeding disorder and it is usually mild. Diagnosis may be challenging, and, in the past, there were more difficulties in making this diagnosis than now. Eventhough it is possible that this was a new spontaneous mutation arising in one of your 2 copies of vw factor before you were conceived, it is more likely that it was never an issue with your parents.
