A better strategy...: Although a substantial majority of bumps on the lower lip are innocent lesions (e.g., mucous retention cysts, venous lakes, or cold sores), some are not. Worrying about them is not productive; finding out whether the bump requires treatment is more beneficial. You need to schedule a diagnostic appointment with your dentist to evaluate the bump so its significance can be determined.

Have it checked: Any bump or lesion in mouth should be looked at especially if they change in color or size. Many 'bad' lesions can be painless but not all lesions are 'bad'. Just as lesions on other parts of your body, a biopsy may be needed to determine the exact nature of the problem especially if has been present for more than a couple of weeks.
