3-5 weeks or so: 3-4 weeks is common before ssris show clinical effectiveness. Usually a 2-4 week follow up after initial prescription is planned. If symptoms remain severe by that time, worsen, or are out of control, this should be promptly brought to the attention of the prescribing physician. Combination meds and psyhotherapy by a psychologist is often better than either alone.
