A member asked:

Is it practical to dilute the blood with saline to avoid clog during hemodialysis?

No: Use Heparin (blood thinner give IV during dialysis) or start taking Coumadin (warfarin) (blood thinner pill) if you have a lot of clotting issues during dialysis. Adding saline/water is not affective to keep the blood from clotting and is not practical as the whole purpose of dialysis is to get rid of the water from the body.

Perhaps: Most chronic dialysis patients are quite anemic already. Depending on the total situation, blood, IV drugs, or fluids may be used to maximize effectiveness.
