Is abdominal compartment syndrome the same thing as an aaa?

Dr. David Yan answered

No: Compartment syndrome occurs when a fixed space is subjected to increasing amounts of pressure, causing altered perfusion or organ dysfunction. With abdominal compartment syndrome, increased pressure may cause respiratory problems, poor kidney function, or dysfunction of other intraabdominal organs. An abdominal aortic aneurysm is where a part of the aorta dilates due to degenerative changes.

Unrelated: A abdominal aortic aneurysm -aaa- is a widening and thinning of the wall of the abdominal part of the aorta. The aorta is the body's largest artery. Abdominal compartment syndrome occurs when the pressure in the abdomen is so high that blood supply to organs gets cut off. Measure pressure by bladder catheter. Treat with immediate opening of the abdomen surgically. Multiple causes.

AAA/abd compartment : Absolutely different conditions completely. One has to do with pressure in the abdomen and the other has to do with weakness in the wall of a blood vessel.
