Pregnancy possible?: Nipple tenderness can be a symptom of early pregnancy. Other hormonal changes, like starting a birth control pill or being premenstrual can sometimes cause breast tenderness. If there is any type of skin rash around your nipples or any lump in your breast, see your doctor for an exam right away. If the tenderness remains after your next period, get a breast exam anyway.
