Oxidative stress: "oxidation" is the process of removing electrons from an atom or molecule. This can result in destructive changes -- like iron rusting. The metabolism that runs our bodies is an oxidative process that produces free radicals. "oxidative stress" is the burden on our bodies when this happens; it causes wrinkles, aging, & inflammation. We have protection in the form of antioxidant vitamins, etc.
