A 62-year-old female asked:
why do i get dizzy when i lay on the left side of my head?

A few thots: Maybe a local inner ear issue on the left, or perhaps, arterial compression in neck due to position, or even intracranial issues such as colloid cyst presentation. In some cases, a videonystagmogram will provide localization and therapeutic directions. If inner ear, an epley maneuver may work wonders.

Positional vertigo: Dizziness with certain head positions is consistent with benign positional vertigo. This is usually self resolving. However, should your symptoms persist or worsen, be sure to see your family doctor, internist, or neurologist.

BPPV: This may be from a condition known as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. See your doctor...If it is bppv they should be able to give you some exercises (epley) to help. Sometimes medications like Meclizine (bonine) can also be helpful if it is bppv.

A 42-year-old member asked:
How long should I feel dizzy after knocking my head?

Dr. Steven Charlap answered

Get medical care: If dizziness follows knocking your head, you may have suffered a concussion. In which case, you should immediately see a physician or go to a emergency room. If there was any loss of consciousness, you may develop a subdural hematoma, which is bleeding into the brain and can be life threatening. Please have your dizziness evaluated immediately.

Why does my head feel woozy after consuming a moderate amount of cola?

Too much caffine: I would suspect that you are having problems with excessive caffeine in the cola. If the symptoms persist without consumption of the cola and then you would need a physical evaluation.
