Maybe nerve problem: Your description sounds most like saphenous neuritis. Irritation or entrapment of the sensory nerve on the inner part of the knee can cause pain and associated numbness--usually it can be treated without surgery. You should see a specialist and have your knee examined to be sure, as there are many other possible causes, such as pinched nerve root in the lumbar spine, etc. Good luck.
