Naloxone in ER: Respiratory distress? Respiratory depression is typically seen with narcotics. Generally people who take enough hydromorphone to have respiratory depression are not alert enough to recognize it. Treatment is to provide specific narcotic antidote Naloxone which may precipitate narcotic withdrawal.
