Can birth control pills give you spider and varicose veins on your legs?

No: Birth control pills are not supposed to aggravate spider veins. It is mainly a hereditary tendency to develop varicose and spider veins which can be aggravated by pregnancy and standing.

Possibly: The most common causes of varicose and spider veins are genetics or family history, pregnancy, trauma and occupations or activities with prolonged standing or sitting. However, hormonal changes are also a contributing factor, and since bcp's will clearly change the patient's hormonal status, they could potentially contribute to the development of spider and varicose veins, if not in a major way.

Maybe: Varicose veins are actually not commonly associated with birth control pill use. Spider veins are a different story.

No association: There isn't an established association between birth control pills and varicose veins or spider veins. Both are made worse by prolonged standing. Varicose veins also get worse during pregnancy. Talk with your doctor about methods to minimize varicose veins.

Possibly: I realize that your question is controversial but i can only respond from experience. Although there may not be a direct cause and effete between bcp's and vein formation, there certainly is an increase in veins during pregnancy partially due to hormonal changes. Also, over the years, patients on oral bcp's were more resistant to sclerotherapy treatments and had a greater incidence of staining
