Get attention: Of course, after a car accident you should be evaluated by your doctor. For pain relief right after trauma, a simple thing that helps lots of people is to apply ice. I don't apply ice directly to the skin but instead use a bag of frozen vegetables or put the ice in a bag then wrap it in a towel. But please make sure he is safe and nothing really serious is going on, and get this checked out.

Needs evaluation: If the entire left side is numb and swollen finger he needs go see doctor or urgent clinic for evaluation soon.Meanwhile OTC pain meds as per label instructiins.
