Yes: There are some studies that show horse chestnut can have a positive effect on venous insufficiency. It apparently works on the lining of the vein called the endothelium. Because of this, it can decrease the amount of fluid that leaks from the veins as well as it is felt that this decreases the inflammation associated with venous insufficiency.

Sort of: The most effective suplement that exists for improving the symptoms of varicose veins is daflon 500 and it isn't available in the us. Daflon has been shown to help swelling due to varicose veins. Horse chestnut has been shown to help too, but the studies for horse chestnut are not as good as the daflon studies. Bottom line line, none of these can make broken veins work normally again.

No Benefits: There is no medical evidence to document that horse chestnut will improve the appearance of varicose veins. Homeopathic supplements such as horse chestnut, escin, diosmin and bioflavonoids are just that-supplements. They are not 1st line treatment for varicose veins. It would be prudent for you to have a venous evaluation by a vein specialist.
