See below: An arterial blood gas (abg) is used to detect the oxygenation in blood and see if there is any discrepancy to that obtained from the lungs (via a finger or ear oxygen sensor). If so, it could be something like a blood clot in the lungs. It also tells you your carbon dioxide level and blood acidity. You can refuse any test you want.
