Depends on severity: Lots of people have some degree of CRF (chronic renal failure), also known as CKD or chronic kidney disease. Ckd is grouped into stages, the most severe of which is stage v indicating <15% function. Dialysis is usually recommended when the function is <10%. Many patients survive without having to start dialysis with lesser degrees of disease, especially if they follow their doctor's advice.

Not easily answered: Creatinine level all by itself does not determine the need for dialysis. If your total remaining kidney function keeps you symptom free and blood tests do not have dangerous chemical abnormalities then your life expectancy is likely the same as a patient of your same age that hasdiabetes and has had a heart attack... Even that though is a very rough guess. Talk to your doctor to get a better guess.
