Unsure: Not sure i understand what you mean by linked. I would presume that you may mean does a sufferer of tmj/tmd sometimes undergo depression because of their pain and ends up on antidepressants. Many of my new patients are taking these meds. They come into my office after trying many other remedies.

Tricyclics and other: Tricyclic antidepressants and some of the ssri and snri can be excessively stimulating during the initial phases until the body adjusts. Insomnia, anxiety, and a feeling of "overstimulation" can all lead to clenching of the jaws. This generally goes away after a week or so.

Number of things: 1. Tmj and depression is sometimes linked and an anti-depressant is used to treat the depression. 2. A side affect of these drugs is bruxing which is a contributing factor in tmj. 3. Sometimes Amitriptyline or nortriptyline ( anti-depressants) are used to treat TMJ related pain.

Linked?: Chronic pain patients often become depressed and therefore some take antidepressants. Alternatively, some antidepressant drugs are used in low doses to treat pain.
