Ask your doctor: There are many different surgical procedures of the ankle, and some are more extensive than others. You want to find out from the surgeon when what exercises are safe and when, or if you need some physical therapy first. Also, some activity may be allowed at certain times, but might need a brace or splint. Good luck!

Up to one year: Depending on what type of surgery you had it could take up to at least one year before you can start running again. Talk to your surgeon, make sure you are following the rehab program you have been given. There are other activities that I have my athletes do including swimming etc.
