Similar to adults: Medications such as ace inhibitors, diuretics, beta blockers, and digoxin are used to control heart failure symptoms. Anticogulation is usually needed. Treatment is similar in adults and children. In severe cases a transplant may be an option.

See cardiologist: Dilated cardiomyopathy is a serious condition in children. It can be a sequel to an infection, to congenital heart disease or to a coronary artery problem. Treatment is complicated and depends on the cause and the severity. Cardiac function and structure need to be thoroughly evaluated. A pediatric cardiologist needs to take care of such patients.
