I sit close to a printer at work and sometimes the fumes are really strong, is this harmful?

Talk with your doc: Any symptoms [headache, fatigue, stuffy nose, cough, trouble breathing]? Laser printers release fine dust: unknown how this effects our health in the long run. Copiers release ozone and toner dust/fumes. More info here in comments ...

Yes: As Dr. Yep said, the fumes from printers are toxic. A famous saying is that the poison is in the dose; occasional exposures will not harm most people but being exposed on a regular basis is hazardous. I would talk to your supervisor and demand either you or the printer be moved. If they won't ask your Dr. to write a letter saying you should be moved.
