Plantar fasciitis: Plantar fasciitis, or arch ligament strain is a common cause of heel pain in the bottom of the heel and/or arch. Achilles tendonitis or bursitis can cause pain in the back of the heel. A stress fracture or bursitis typically cause pain in the bottom of the heel. Pain on the inner (medial or big toe side) heel and ankle might represent tarsal tunnel or nerve irritation.

Many possibilities: Heel pain is most often caused by plantar fasciitis, a condition that is sometimes also called heel spur syndrome when a spur is present. Heel pain may also be due to other causes, such as, infection, tendonitis, arthritis, stress fracture, nerve irritation, retained foreign body, bone tumor, or a cyst. Have it evaluated by a professional and get the appropriate treatment.
