It depends: Speaking regarding wisdom teeth removal, there is no doubt that today that it can be done very confortablely with excellent anesthesia and IV sedation that you wake up and everything is done without you remembering a thing. Premedication with anti infamatory and anti swelling perscriptions can make even your experience afterwards very comfortable.

I think tonsils...: Either can have complications that are not pleasant so it all depends on if your wisdom teeth are impacted or erupted or if you tonsils are large and infected. The main difference in my opinion is that a tonsillectomy is done under general in a hospital whereas wisdom teeth are removed usually in an outpatient procedure.

Both hurt but tonsil: Both wisdom tooth removal and tonsillectomy are painful recoveries which are performed with anesthesia. Tonsillectomy is most likely more painful because the raw surface area for healing is larger and you are swallowing past that raw surface throughout the healing process. Pain medication helps in both cases but one should expect 1-2 weeks for recovery of tonsil surgery in general.
