My mom had her the fistula taken down 1 wk ago. her arm is swollen around fistula and is very painful. it is also very hard. is this normal?

Not really: I suspect that your mother may have a hematoma...A collection of blood at the surgery site. I would get her back to the surgeon that took down the fistula so he can evaluate the arm. Good luck.

I dont think so.: I assume you are talking about a dialysis fistula. Could be infection. She needs to see the doctor who did the surgery.
