Small, but there: Hpv directly causes at least 50% of all vaginal and vulvar cancers, as well as all cerivical cancers, much of anal cancers, 70% of head-and-neck cancers and most non-melanoma skin cancers amongst other problems! that's a ton of cancers from one virus! luckily 80-90 % of women will 'clear' the infection within a year or two. But, others won't and progress. Get paps yearly and follow closely!

Hard to say: About 80% of the cervical cancers have hpv as the major causative factor. However, only a very small proportion of the women infecred with hpv develop cervical cancer. Girls/women 9-26 yrs of age should get vaccinated against hpv.
