Thrombocytopenia: If you are concerned regarding your platelet counts on valproic acid please speak with the prescribing physician. The decrease in platelet counts that can occur with sodium valproate appears to be dose related, reversable and in adults is usually not clinically significant. If there is a significant decrease in platelet counts a decrease in dose and possible medication discontinuation may occur.
