Depends: There are too many types to answer. In general, on the finger tip, they heal themselves but feel better if a splint is worn. On other parts of the finger a "chip" can be the small piece of bone that pulls off when a tendon pulls off and may require a more aggressive approach such as pinning or surgery.

Depends: Like real estate, location is so important. Depends on the injury type, location, and nature of problem. I would consult a hand surgeon to help determine what the best way to help you heal. Sometimes it's okay to leave tiny fragments alone too, as long as it does not affect the function of the finger.
