Great that you ask: Stopping means overcoming both nicotine addiction, and a deeply ingrained habit. Physical withdrawal (addiction) lasts ~3 wks, and many get past that with will power & nicotine replacement. Sometimes the harder job is changing the habit. Avoid cues you associate with smoking, tell family/friends to help, pick a date, and get help and FDA approved meds (eg varenicline, NRT) from your doc. Gd luck!
