Not new: Laser liposuction or smartlipo has been around five or more years. First generation machines were no better than traditional liposuction but the newest models offer better skin tightening and impressive treatment for cellulite. As with traditional liposuction irregularities are a risk. Any laser can cause burns but the temperature gauge makes burns less likely.

Not quite: There are two kinds of laser usage for fat reduction. One is laser assisted liposuction, which is still surgery and require the introduction of a cannula to suck the fat out. The second use of laser is non invasive, which means that the skin is not cut. Laser beam is directed on the fat to destroy the fat and your body will absorb it . There is always a risk of burn with laser.
