Conservative care: I usually suggest conservative care with physical therapy and possible a epidural cortisone for the majority of my patients. Eighty percent of disk herniations heal without surgery. If, on the other hand you have neurological deficit like weakness or severe sensory loss, then i would consider surgery. In that case i favor minimally invasive discectomy the majority of the time.
