A member asked:

I have a bulging disc on the left side of the lumbar region that is trapping the nerve that goes down my leg what would you suggest as treatment?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Conservative care: I usually suggest conservative care with physical therapy and possible a epidural cortisone for the majority of my patients. Eighty percent of disk herniations heal without surgery. If, on the other hand you have neurological deficit like weakness or severe sensory loss, then i would consider surgery. In that case i favor minimally invasive discectomy the majority of the time.
