That sounds right: Chronic gastritis can last for months, if not years. The more you can keep to a good diet, and control excess acid with Prilosec or other such meds, will help, but it can take a long time to clear up.

Treat the cause: Chronic gastrititis can be difficult to treat, but removing the cause along with adequate treatment often result in healing in 6-8 wks. Helicobacter pylori (bacteria) is a cause of chronic gastritis--effective treatment often results in healing in about 6 wks. Alcoholism can cause chronic symptoms and stopping it will allow healing in few wks, with good nutrition. Re-consult doc. Good luck.
