Possibly...: Arthritis in any joint can lead to inflammation around the joint too. However, the area you are describing could also be a strained calf muscle. Try to ice and rest the area, but if it does not improve, or if it swells or turns red/hot, see your doctor.

Possibly: Sometimes arthritis in a joint can cause nearby muscles to become irritated. This can also happen on the opposite side from the bad joint, as you begin to favor your good side.
