Could be clenching: People underestimate the headaches, head pain, jaw and ear pain that can be caused by clenching your teeth. Many do it while they sleep, but some do it during the day as well. Visit a TMJ or headache dentist for further evaluation. In the meantime, fingertip massage in the sore areas, anti-inflammatory medications (like advil), and a cold pack to the sore areas can help.

Need a diagnosis: It could be your left temperomandibular joint or something adjacent. If it is the joint or related muscles, it will need to be evaluated by an experienced dentist for treatment options. If it turns out to be ear related, you'll need to see a physician. If it seems to be affected by jaw movements, start with the dentist.

Head and ear pain: This can come from a variety of sources, including ear infection, neck muscle trigger points, and TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorders). See your md and your TMJ dentist if symptoms persist.
